Conduct direct 1:1 calls with people outside Penn State on Google Meet mobile

Mar 6, 2024

Earlier this year, Google rolled out encrypted 1:1 video calls between users within the same domain using the Meet mobile app. Starting in the beginning of April, Google will roll out the same encrypted calling mechanisms for calls originating from outside Penn State, reducing the need for pre-created meeting links when contacting with individuals outside of the Penn State network. This will not apply to calls placed to users’ legacy accounts, and will not contain legacy Duo features such as messages, moments, family mode, or knock knock.

Links are provided to the Google Help Center for information on making Meet Calls with Google Meet and learning about the new Meet app.

More information will become available as the service rolls out.
